About This Site

Several years ago a newspaper article revealed that a disproportionate number of Argentine army offices all seemed to be born in the month of November, thus being ‘Scorpions’ – with a desire to ‘sting’ – or ‘Sagittarians’ – with a desire to ‘shoot arrows’ at people. Was this by virtue of their birth date? What would devotees of Astrology think? Or is this plainly, just a lot of bunk?

Since the Argentine Army had a reputation for ‘stinging’ unarmed civilians with electrodes or shooting ‘human arrows’ from helicopters mid-ocean, astrologers could be boastful of their accuracy to describe and predict this behaviour.

Others who looked at such behaviour might say aloud that Argentine officers might have been born on ‘Ur-anus’ or Mars.

Perhaps this was a case of “Nominative Determinism?” Nominative Determinism is the theory that you become what your environment labels or defines you as. For example, Carl Jung showed that someone called ‘Herr Feist’ (‘Mr Stout’ in English) was actually a stout man. More fun examples can be found here.  in our example above, a child grows up being told (for instance) by an astrologer that they are a Scorpio, and then goes on in life to ‘sting’ others, particularly as an Argentine military officer.

In other words, a self-fulfilling prophesy.

Naturally there could be also other explanations. Perhaps the explanation is that those born in November (i.e. who were conceived 9 months prior in February) , were the offspring of conservative Catholics who had their last sexual relations before Lent. Or perhaps it is explained by the fact that their older siblings had been sent off to boarding school at that time, and the parents had ‘free time’ on their hands. Or it could be simply be by convention, that the ‘second born’ always went into the Army.

But simply speaking, we don’t know for sure what is true.

Determining any kind of relationship between the date and time you were born and the physical, psychological or social traits you exhibit has, until now, been the realm of Astrologers, not bona fide scientists. Scientists are generally afraid of investigating this relationship for fear of endorsing Astrology (or Numerology for that matter) and giving it legitimacy.

The purpose of this website is:

  1. We want to explore the relationship between the date and time of birth and  physical, psychological or social traits, if any.
  2. We want to collect data in such a way that could be useful to someone who wishes to do a ‘proper’ scientific study.
  3. We wish to dissociate ourselves from the “Astrology” explanations of birth date traits.

This issue could be one of the great unexplored frontiers of science.

We do offer a few caveats to would-be researchers of this issue.

  1. All data collected on this site is self supplied.
  2. Therefore it is inherently biased.
  3. Also, evidence collected is largely anecdotal.

Anyone who wants to use this data can use it freely given the above monitions.

In the future we will be providing more information about birthdate traits, and we hope to be offering surveys soon that test a particular trait – for instance, if there is any relationship between the date and time you were born and whether you are right or left handed.

Much Regards
